I herd some people talkin about 'the one percent' and they're evil or something, lol, like what even is that?

The amount of respect I get from my family.

1 percenters is short term for the people who controls most of yhe wealth generated by the economy today (as in 1% of the population of the world controls 99% of the worlds wealth).

The people Hasan Piker wants to eat.

The wealthiest 1% of a population.

In reality, the 1% are not some fiendish monolith, and many wealthy people are not at all interested in getting more wealthy or engaging in some vast conspiracy to get all the power/money (such as this woman here: ), but they do wield an extremely outsized amount of economic influence, creating a dangerously unstable societal picture that has sparked revolutions in the past.

(And, for the record, that's why I support limited wealth redistribution - less out of the question of 'fair' and more out of a desire for us all to dodge the Guillotine)

A pretty silly meme as 1% isn't really mostly the super rich, it includes doctors, lawyers and other middle class types

Should be 0.1% or even 0.01%, but that's way less catchy

If you're in the 1%, you're not in the middle class by definition, and only some doctors and lawyers make the 350k a year to qualify as 1%. On the doctor front, mainly a relative handful of specialists. Which is not what we need more of in the US. And even many lawyers don't make that.

But yes, the really really 'bad' 1%ers are the tippy-top portion of that 1%. Economic inequality in the US is exponential in it's graph, rather than arithmetic.

Funny thing, the members of the wealthy class not interested in gathering more money and power tend to lose out to other interested in gathering more money and power, with their, ya know, increasing amounts of money and power

There's a difference between wanting to maintain one's wealth and wanting to gobble up all the money regardless of the social cost. Some wealthy people are wealthy due to inheritance or the like, or just... already have more money than they know what to do with thanks to royalties or patents they hold or stocks they've got or whatever.

Bill Gates doesn't go around desperately grasping for more cash.

Bill Gates isn't a great example, Microsoft isn't what I'd call a flawless corporate citizen even after getting slapped by trust busting laws, and how his charity, especially his backing of charter schools has an extremely political character.

The point is that Bill Gates opposes things like tax cuts and deregulations that would increase his wealth. Which any monkey with a typewriter could have gleaned from the context.
