It was 24 years ago that one Ramzi Yousef, a top bomb maker on al-Qaeda's payroll, tested a bomb on Philippine Airlines 434 -at the time a 747-283B- in preparation for a larger plot targeting not only America, but also Pope John Paul the Second in a combination of bombing 11 outbound flights, suicide attacks, and plane hijackings. This would lead into the 9/11 attacks. Thankfully for the world, the plot had been foiled by bad luck and the finicky nature of 'home brew' explosives. With a combination of the seat position being away from the main fuel tank, a chemical fire, and the assistant leaving vital evidence in the haste to leave the scene of the chemical fire, the plot had been foiled.
I propose two timelines: one where the plot is partially successful, killing Pope John Paul the Second and successfully bombing a handful of aircraft; and the other is completely successful. How would the world change after this?
