Warhammer 40k General Thread

I think that Dawn of War II retribution is a very good strategy game, big downside for the scenario unfortunately, there is plenty of inconsistency. The multiplayer is enjoyable and I find the Imperial Guard pretty well calibrated.

OK, now a more detailed report of today's Warhammer 40,000 Apocalypse game:

A quick overview of our force:

On the Imperium of Man side, we have......
  • 500+ points of Mechanicus forces from Mars
  • 500+ points of Mechanicus forces from Stygies VIII (Mine)
  • 2000+ points of Blood Angels Adeptus Astartes lead by Dante
  • 2000+ points of Dark Angels Adeptus Astartes lead by Azreal
  • Some local Astra Militarum force, which include....
    • 1 Shadowsword
    • 2 Leman Russ Battle Tank
    • 2 Basilisk
    • 2 Knight Armiger Helverin
    • 3 Predator Tanks (of unknown origin, "loaned" to the Blood Angels)
    • 1 Razorback Transport (of unknown origin, "loaned" to the Blood Angels)
    • 1 Land Raider (of unknown origin, "loaned" to the Blood Angels)

On the Chaos side, we have......
  • 5000+ points of Nugle forces
  • 1000+ points of Tzeentch forces
  • 500+ points of Chaos-aligned Tyranid forces
  • Some mal-aligned forces, which include......
    • 2 Renegade Knight Paladin
    • 1 Renegade Knight Crusader
    • 1 Renegade Knight Dominus Castellan
The Objective are as follows:
  • The Chaos forces manage to surprise the Imperium defenders of a fortress, taking initiative to a full-on offensive.
    • In the end of turn 5, Chaos forces must have 2000+ points worth of models at the top of the fortress walls, 72 inches away from the deployment zone.

Special condition:
  • Orbital Bombardment: the Imperial Navy in orbit manage to conduct orbital bombardment in support of defending forces.
    • At the end of every turn, all models within (number of turns)×12" of the Chaos side edge will suffer D6 mortal wounds (12" in the 1st turn, 24" in the 2nd turn......).

First turn
The Imperium defenders were shocked to see a tidal wave of Nurgle forces forming at the distance. All sorts of daemons, daemon engines, and Plague Marines are gathering at the distance. A wave of Nurglings deep strike themselves 9" away from Imperium lines, seeking to tie the defenders in melee combat, covering the advance of the main body.

The Renegade Knights fire away, but a Omnissiah-blessed Predator Tank manage to tank fire from 3 Renegade Knights before succumbing to injury, but the Land Raider was not so lucky, as the full salvo from the Renegade Knight Dominus Castellan blow it away.

Nurglings charged in the hole on the Imperium line where the Predator and Land Raider used to be, a lone Onager Dunecrawler stands in the path. Using accurate overwatch fire from 2 Cognis Subbers, they manage to soften up the Nurglings before the charge. Other Nurglings seek another breakthrough by charging 2 Vindicator tanks.

Vindicators fall back, with Blood Angels Tactical Marines moving forward to confront the Nurglings, and reinforcements from 2 Dark Angels Land Raiders plug the hole in the Imperium line. Everyone fires, wiping out the Nurglings. Onager Dunecrawlers, Shadowsword, Basilisk, Leman Russ, Armigers, every big gun fires at the Renegade Knights. But by abusing the "Rotate Ion Shield" strategem, the suffered minimal wounds.

Second turn
After advancing closer to the Imperium lines, the Renegade Knights open up with more armaments. Both Leman Russ and a Vindicator were wiped out, and more vehicles are wounded.

With Magnus, Ahzek Ahriman, A Daemon Prince entering the fray, many havoc were created in the Imperium lines.

Brightlord Terminators teleport into the fray and start harassing the defenders.

Despite clearing the Nurglings, the Imperium flank faces another crisis, a section of defense line manned by 3 squads of Skitarii Vanguards (2 from Stygies VIII, 1 from Mars), a horde of Tyranid came in aid of Chaos forces. A terrifying charge, and 2 Vanguard squads were wipe out by the Purestrain Genestealers. Two Onager Crawlers were also attacked, but the Tech-Priest Dominus commanding that section of line manage to repair them sufficiently to keep them from dying.

But their momentum was stalled, Deathwing Terminators, Archangel Terminators, Ravenwing Bikers, Primaris Inceptors, Primaris Vanguard Infiltrators, Dreadnoughts, and various Astartes reinforcements pour in. Dante and Azreal also join in the fight.

Adeptus Mechanicus forces fired in retaliation, but with Genestealers feeling no pain, 36 Phosphor shots and 30 Heavy Bolter shots failed to make a significant dent in their numbers, The Magos and his accompanying Skitarii Vanguards also pour in their fire and failed. Finally, having to rely on Astartes reinforcements to clear the line.

With return fire diverted, only the Shadowsword and Basilisk manage to fire on the Renegade Knights, still failing to make a dent on their armor.

Hellblasters risking overcharge, manage to wipe out the Blightlord Terminators with some help from the Shadowsword's four Lascannon.

A valiant squad of Skitarii Vanguards manage to wound Abaddon using their Transuranic Arquebus.

At the end of the turn, Terminators, Tactical Marines, Primaris Marines and Dreadnoughts form a new line and beginning to push back at the Chaos.

Third turn
Imperium forces face morbid situation as their reinforcements run dry, and yet more Nurgle daemons are being summoned in! Worse, Occult Terminators and Rubric marines are arriving......

But the Stygies VIII sends out a massive recall of all forces to return to the Forge World, so my detachment had to withdraw......

Comments:
Damn...... so this is Apocalypse......

It took more than 15 minutes just to resolve one side's Psychic phase.... not to mention summoning reinforcements, moving, resolving shooting....... from 11.00 a.m. until 5.30 p.m., it's every tiring, but crazy.

Since it's the first Apocalypse in this Shop, the owner is kind enough to lend us his collection of Knights, Shadowsword, IG tanks, Space Marine vehicles...... Magnus the Red (he still refuses to lend us his bad ass Thunderhawk).

And a badass player brought out his entire Nurgle collection, including fucking 30-year-old die-cast Nurgle models and the very old Abaddon model still on square base...... he brough so many models that he carried the entire car trunk tray up to the store to ease unloading......

He brought his two kids, who askes the Shop Owner, when can he get the sexy new Keeper of Secret model? Holy Omnissiah, the kid is barely 7 or 8 years old!

Are there any rules for Only War where you could have something akin to deathwatch where guardsmen from multiple different regiments form killteams and taskforces to deal with certain missions?

Nothing stops you from doing a mish mash, here most of the legwork ought to come from the background reasining.

No. Have you?
Yup, one to be accurate.
Humanoids from the Calixis sector, characterized by a relatively strong presence in the Warp that eventually led to their planet being flooded by daemons not long after Slaanesh's birth.
The population survived but most wanted nothing to do with the warp, so they uploaded their minds into artificial bodies becoming androids, they've advanced enough to crack non-warp based FTL, the ones who didn't want to give up on their flesh bodies mostly stay on the original planet.
Then you have the ones who went crazy and turned to Chaos during the cataclysm.

I hope it wasn't as broken as those examples I made before.

135 seems a tad pricy for such a frail force multiplier (and one that doesn't do that much).

Since I'm currently still between jobs and bored, I decided to try make a fan rule of a famous Character.

Archmagos Explorator Lexell Kotov
Archmagos Explorator Lexell Kotov is a single model armed with a Heavy Grav-Cannon, an Assault Cannon, Explorator's Companion, and a Master-crafted Power Sword.

Total: 166 pts.

So, is this better gameplay wise?

Question: What if Vulkan and not Gulliman came back after the 13th Black Crusade? How would the Imperium change because of this?
The return of a primarch would be seen as a miracle regardless of whoever came back, that much is certain.
That said, I believe Vulkan wouldn't be nearly as good as lord commander as Guilliman considering his mindset which, I believe, would lead to conflict between him and other branches of the Imperium such as the Inquisition.
Hell, Guilliman may very well be the only primarch with enough common sense to avoid that.

That'd be true, Gulliman is a statesman, after all. But Vulkan would probably be the next-best thing, as he commanded the Post-Heresy Imperium before in the War of the Beast.

So basically all 40k fan content is now illegal, even fanfiction and fanart are under strict guidelines and can't be monetized so goodbye to your commissions of a hot Krieger Corpsman.

1) Ouch for TTS.
2) Lolwat are you saying about commissions and fanarts? Nintendo has zero tolerance on fan content and it doesn't stop anything regarding small stuff that goes under the radar.
3) Double megalolwat about 'fan content is now illegal', that is LITERALLY not what the video says. The author indicates that maybe he'd win a suit, but he cannot afford the investment in time, pressure, etc. Tip for you: GW doesn't say what is legal or illegal, legislative bodies do and judges confirm about something questioned on the law.

So, yeah, it sucks. But seriously, want a commission, you pay for it and an artist will make it for ya without anyone bothering you unless, that is, the commission is a feature film with AAA budget or so.

The Monster Energy of the tabletop expanded universe if you will.

Monster has the gall to put on its products things like "not like the big beverage companies". They pretty much dominate the energy drink market in NA though, and are sponsors for racing events globally. They are everywhere.

So, one other thing that they are known for is being absolute cunts about their trademark. If someone says the word "monster" or anything even remotely resembling their bland and uninspired motto they sue the shit out of absolutely anyone.

Strangely, it seems to be a Monster Thing . The company Monster Cable that made a bunch of shitty AV cables and marketed them as being superior despite their being barely average, also has the habit of suing anyone who says "Monster". Daycares, minigolf courses, aquariums, the Monster Curse© causes an insatiable lawsuitlust.

I think he's saying he can't afford the lawyer fees to even win the suit.
