Star Wars Megathread

They have really been sucking lately.

They have really been sucking lately.
Here's a little tadbit of information for you: the customer doesn't know what they want. While a good portion of the blame goes to Disney for ignoring various lessons over the last few decades, most of it is because, let's face it, people don't know what they really want.

So Fallen Order has done better than EA had expected as 8 million copies were bought by the end of December when they had expected to sell 6 to 8 million copies by the end of the fiscal year which is March 31st. One would hope EA doesn't squander the goodwill Fallen Order has generated in relation to EA Star Wars but being that is EA I wouldn't be surprised by them messing up somehow with their next game.

EA boasted about this game not having micro transactions in press releases. As for it's success I'd say because it's mechanics from other games turn it into a solid Star Wars game and lets you be a Jedi. Personally wasn't a fan of the fact that the story has pretty much zero impact on Star Wars future in-universe though that's a given with Disney refusing to have more than one timeline. It is a big win on the other hand for EA and will have an impact on the future of EA Star Wars as the recent industry mantra has been "Single player games are dead" and well this stands as an example among a few others that this is not true.

At leas The Mandalorian was good. Clone Wars season 7 trailer looks positive.

Otherwise, not the greatest news. Hell, the latest was taking the originally planned-for Obi-Wan movie that transitioned to a 6 episode Disney+ series now likely becoming a 4 episode series. So essentially the movie. Oh, but they still don't have a real script. That does not bode well at all.
The thing is, in terms of consistent sales, singleplayer games have lagged behind immensely until recently.
The singleplayer games tend to be the better made games though. Which means that you get consistent sales with each game as you gain customer loyalty. The "Who cares about if the game is finished? Make some patches and DLC, we need to release this quarter." method is fucking over the industry, and now any studio is only as good as their last release.

People loved KOTOR. Just by mentioning this there is a high probability that someone will fire up the old games. Fans would have paid for a dozen new games with an aging graphics engine so long as they could follow and take place in stories in that sandbox. Then the MMO came out where you could... wander around in the setting and... stuff, I guess. Sales dropped off a cliff.

So watched The Mandalorian. Really good show and a good way to get rid of the bad taste left by Rise of Skywalker. Though some of the dialogue could've used a rewrite and wasn't a fan of some elements of the story but still a terrific show and I'm excited for the next season.

So Disney is kicking off a new multimedia media campaign for Star Wars in August set 200 years before Episode 1 where the Galactic Republic and the Jedi Order are at their zenith. Basically it will be like the Clone Wars multimedia project launched by Lucasfilm that last from 2003 through 2005 except more kid friendlier even though there will be entertainment aimed at adults and teens being that this is Disney and no video games for the moment. Personally not really interested though announce a project like this for the Old Republic era of the Disney canon and I'll board that hype train.

I mean yeah. Force Awaken had the best handling of the character minus his gleeful killing of fellow child soldiers and well his importance in the trilogy does decline in the next two movies.

Honestly Finn felt not just wasted but actively shoved aside. I think most of what's needed to be said has been said, and by more amusing people than me. HISHE especially - and when a twelve minute parody cartoon does a story more justice and has better writing than full feature films there is a serious problem with the films.

I don't know if anyone else feels this way, but to me how they handled Ackbar just seemed emblematic of the entire sequel trilogy. Here we have a minor, one note character from the originals. Most of the public wouldn't know him from a Salmon and that's fine. He's unimportant in the grand scheme of things, but most casual fans kind of like him for the memes. To dedicated hardcore fans he's more than that, and by and large they respect his character. In the old EU the character is fleshed out, lives, loves, laughs and in the end is given a dignified funeral.

This character was brought in on purpose. Staff at Disney knew what he was about and in general knew he was well liked.

"Here, see that fish face? Remember him? Remember how he's made you laugh?" goes the film. I imagine many a fan caught on and wondered where they would take this funny meme character. Would Disney take this moment to flesh out their new trilogy? Would they take this chance to weave in some of the better old lore?

"BOOM! HEADSHOT! WITH A MISSILE! Feel how high the stakes are yet?"

I just cannot fathom what the hell the thought process was.

Mandalorian season 2 is pretty RPG Adventure with all the side quests.

Except every time I think that might be a not-good thing some real epic shit comes into play and I am on board again. In the way that ties to the broader aspects of the SW universe without making it mandatory to have watched everything else beforehand.

Really liking how the Force is so rarely seen. I don't mind it for the blockbuster movies where the fate of the galaxy is on the line, but there has historically been too much focus on the Jedi while ignoring the millions of stories of Muggle badasses. Mando may be an elite Muggle, but it is still a breath of fresh air (still not over the stink of The Rise of Skywalker).

Bunch of new projects announced.

Investors: Will you be showing us a glimpse of what is to come?
Disney: Yes.
Investors: How much?
Disney: Yes.

Time Warner thought they could boost their streaming service with movies already in production.

The Mouse thought that was a declaration of war, because all of Star Wars, Marvel, independent productions... they are carpet bombing the entertainment world.

In other things Star Wars:

I am still enjoying Season 2 of the Mandalorian. It is somehow getting even better.

LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special was meh. Even the kids were a bit bored by it. Just not Life Day without Itchy watching some VR porn.

So yeah new Star Wars game but most people likely going to be meh towards it.

I played this a lot back in middle school and high school. Pretty fun.

Quantic Dream is an interesting choice to make this game.

Was wondering when the third season would be announced.

Never seen the whole Holiday Special. Just a few bits of it. So behind the scenes stuff is interesting
