Smart People

I'd put myself on the third tier, if not dropping to untiered, due to being myself and as a result being very aware of my own flaws and myriad limitations. I am however flattered by Horton's perception of me, and hope for it someday reflect me.

A month ago I'd have put Rufus Shinra, presently while he's up there I don't have a clue. This site focus on politics makes this harder, as "politics is the mindkiller" and makes me biases towards posters who share my ideological views, and with far less nonpolitical posts and serious posts here it's hard for me to get I reading. I'd agree with most of the posters on the top of Horton's list because of compatible political views and spending time on White Hall.

While he's not on this site, I do appreciate Unhappy Anchovies arguments and detailed thought process while disagreeing with him political. There several SV posters I also like, for example MJ12, but again politics makes mr biased and they are not on this site.

And since I mainly read fan fiction and new/politics on these site clusters, and can't justify using writing skills to justify intelligence. I also like the SB-approved version of rational-fic like the works of Earthscorpion and Mr.Zoat which gives me a literary bias to further blind me.

Surrounding your self with people smarter than you is claimed as a good source of advice. I do the online equivalent, and hope that by reading the posts of those smarter than me to learn to at worst imitate intelligence and at best actual learn new things and find new ideas to explore by oneself.

as a note UA's a great guy(has personally helped me in the past for which I'm grateful) with heaping huge blind spots when it comes to his ability to see where he's compromised.

also big surprise I feel bad I'm not rated piety m-fer that I am

*looks at smart people, look at the average joe in the street*

Balances out so far, advantage to the average peepuls tho.

It's funny because most of the people on Horton's list have never struck me as particularly smart at all. Granted, I'm only familiar with about half of them.

dunning kruger is like that
I mean there's like multiple PHDs on that list, but to be honest most guys with PHDs I've met online are shitposters

Often it's the likes of Mith and Zor who sound all highfalutin and intellectual that are the idiots.

Rearranging Horton's list a bit, here's my opinion, obviously based solely on my own interactions with them, with some SBers I like included:

1. Vorpal
2. Gojirason, Second Mover, Guderian, Connor, David Khoo, Unhappy Anchovy
3. Me, Rufus, Ramenth

Vorpal is in a league of his own compared to the others on this list, there's a few guys on SB I might put in the same tier but nobody on FIC, Horton putting himself in the same tier gives me great amusement.

Rufus could potentially be moved up a tier but clearly isn't interested in putting much intellectual effort into his internet persona, and rarely engages at a level substantially beyond memes and quips. Lerticus is in a similar boat, probably smarter than he lets on, might deserve to be on the list, but isn't interested in putting in any effort to come across that way.

Q99 should definitely not be on the list in any capacity. Cyan probably not either unless he's got some great credentials I'm not aware of.

Mith is probably not as smart as he thinks he is or tries to come across, but still smarter than average. Doc Holiday, probably around average but particularly obtuse when it comes to politics.

Brethern is a legitimate moron, someone who self-confessedly did terrible in school and it shows in every post.

Effort is for losers. I put in effort for doctorates, career, family, and what did that ever get me!?

Other than an early retirement, a wonderful family, and... I dunno. Stuff.

Effort means nothing because every idiot on the internet will still do "I don't believe you", or "prove it", and then ignore anything you say anyway. So why bother? Better to just have fun than try to impress people.

Most of the people on these lists fail to meet the criteria to even be on the lists, if for no other reason than that they put in the effort to look smart. Smart people tend to be too busy to sit around on forums making detailed arguments. They do other things with their lives, and then they let off some steam with the internet masses. Hence the constant quipping.

I mean, you migrated from worst socialist (TM) country to BEST socialist (TM) country, so I think effort pays out :p

Half of these guys I know better then the front tier of their forum persona would imply.

Seeing as we're apparently all so smart here. Riddle me this: Why is it easier to see dumb?

to avoid word salad and misunderstandings as I loose the plot pretty often thinking in circles I try to use as few words as possible

Ok

So why is it so hard to see dumb? ;) 0
Because you don't have enough information, are in too small and too biaised a sample to make estimates and because, like most people here and elsewhere, you haven't met really smart people. I mean, not "school smart" ones but actually smart ones.
