On integration into civilian life - for both renegade soldiers and escaped lab specimens

So anyway, I'm planning on some experimental super-soldiers escaping from a lab, and then going to earth and hiding out there.

A certain part of this, is to have them have trouble integrating into civilian life. Before this, all they knew was test tubes, experiments, and cold, white, sterile environments. They escaped from the lab, broke the containment, killed the guards, killed the scientists, and teleported to earth.

So the question is... what difficulty would they have with fitting in on earth?

You seem to be describing post-graduates pretty accurately. They escaped from the lab, broke containment, fought against the administration, destroyed the jury in (self-)defence and teleported to the real world after having lived in cold, white, sterile environments for an absurd amount of time.

They manage.

Barely.

I hope.

Well, Jessica Alba did front something a show with this premise some time ago. Ummm... young Jessica Alba.

Then how the hell were they contained in the first place? Also, bigger nukes. Git gud scrub.
They were built and meant to defeat the enemy, with psychic, magical, and mental powers meant so that they can singlehandedly take on armies and win.

They were contained using a mixture of sedatives, anti-magical fields, and psychic suppressors. Only thing was, one of the scientists was an idiot, and left his thumbdrive to be accessed by them. Also, they were using ancient artifacts from long-lost civilisations. Which they had a lack of understanding of. So.... they put a virus into the system, and forcibly shut down all the things keeping them from breaking out, simultaneously. Then they killed everyone in the base.

Hilarious.

But...

Um, serious, please?

Yeah Depending on how augmented they are they won't even be able to try and integrate into the wider society. In today's life if you were to ask two people of entirely different backgrounds to tell you something about a certain topic or solve a problem they will both do it differently. That's because their history/training/experience/capabilities are too different to be able to act the same.

An example would be when a rich person would say to a poor person that doesn't have any bread to eat pastries. Sure they might be an idiot to someone like us but to that person that never even needed to bother to even know what starving is it would seem like a normal thing to.

Supersoldiers escaping from a lab would have the same problem but WORSE.

OK. Let me try to start:

  1. Far too willing to use violence
  2. Regimentation
  3. Anger issues
  4. Far too cautious of mundane stuff.

In two of my settings (Children of a Frozen Earth and A New World, a World of Conflict and Sorrow), it is very variable depending on numerous variables.

For example, most factions within Children of a Frozen Earth have various protocols to basically unfuck/weaponize anyone that the Ecopurists would cook up for things like augmented child soldiers and children-turned-plague carriers (yeah, that is a thing, a very scary thing) to weaponized uplifts. However, this takes a lot of time, a lot of effort, and a lot of resources in the short run as many of these poor saps are sent to isolated citadel-outposts so if somehow the Ecopurists have made 'failsafes' so their creations can't be turned against them or otherwise neutralized... and those poor saps tend to be immediately executed and the bodies burned.

In the various-punk setting A New World, SolForce and a handful of factions have quarantine and 'unfuck/weaponize' programs for various sick shit that comes out of SAAT, various terrorist organizations, and what amounts to 'Russia and Friends'.

Executed outright in the modern world and either of my settings.

.... that was for traits for returning soldiers.
Problem with that is you assume it is as simple solders coming home. This discussion is renegade soldiers and/or those soldiers that became lab rats and 'improved'. Countries like to ensure that they have their primacy on power, and having a bunch of supped up soldiers that either went renegade or unleashed isn't good for stability.

.... since when did I say that the countries they're in would know they exist?

If the technology to create improved troops is available, most nations would be upping their internal security because of the implications of that technology (turning kids into syth-plague carriers and worse anyone?). They would be hunted down, prodded, analyzed, and likely killed in most countries or stay in a cell for the rest of their natural lives in others.

To be able to vastly improve a human being as an adult is particularly troubling, especially if it's biotech related.

Ok. BAckground: Setting is a combination of magic and science. Other planets can are in parallel dimensions and timelines. Not in other solar systems. Standard ancient civilisation - golden age, then explosion. There are remainders. Old tech that surpasses anything today. Call them.... Lostech.

Current universe has a dozen empires, republics, and polities, all trying to one-up and take down one another. One of them, desperate for an advantage, takes lostech, and uses it to distill a batch of super soldiers. Previous attempts, across the multiverse, have all failed for one reason to another. From rebellion, to bad genes, genetic instability, or just plain not working. Good news. It worked. Bad news. The soldiers rebelled, killed their handlers, stole all the data, and burnt the entire facility to the ground.

They escaped. But they've got a problem. They can't escape without getting jailed or dissected. They don't want to hide in the wilderness, because it sucks and they'll stick out like a sore thumb. And if they use any of their abilities, their mana will flare, and anyone within a mile of them with a detector can find them. Solution: Go to a world that is far less developed than theirs, with no knowledge of magic. Go there, and lie low. Nothing on that planet can hurt them, being in a different dimension helps to throw off pursuers, and also, being in a civilisation means that its easier for them to build up a power base (making equipment).

So a bunch of Super soldiers that escaped from a lab, hop and skipped across dimensions, and are now hiding out in a small town in America.

If I had a sense of humour, it'll be called gravity falls.

That would be a problem because a lot of things require a rather dense paper trail in the US. Many jobs -even in Small Town USA- require things like SSNs and even driver's licences. So they'll be jailed, interrogated, and probably analyzed at best. Then there is the possibility that they don't know a lick of english, which would cause even more problems...
