Liberal---Why are you?

Obviously inspired by the "Economic Liberalism" thread.

Those of you who would say that you are Liberal, in some area (and it can be political, religious, economic, social, et al), tell us why. Why are you/did you decide to become, Liberal/on the Left?
And please, let us keep it civil, might we? Thou shalt not snark!

My ethics, I cannot abide suffering and government intervention via the form of a welfare state has empirically been shown to be the most effective way of reducing poverty.

Lol what.
Communism is what declines into tyranny. Stalin ring a bell?

Yes, yet Stalin was not uniquely tyrannical, both before and after the USSR Russian governments were and are pretty illiberal and tyrannical (Stalin being one of the most popular individuals in Russia) making it less "Communism is Tyrannical" and more "Russian culture leans towards tyranny"

And yet, communism hands the state more power. Which doesnt help when your trying to prevent tyranny.

And Capitalism hands private industry more power, accumulating into greater and greater monopolies which take advantage of state power as well, which super doesn't help when trying to prevent tyranny.

Private industry creates jobs. Many people, including myself would like to be wealthy one day. Communism doesnt allow that. Communism crushes hopes and dreams. It stops motivation to make something of yourself, because the system doesnt allow that.

You're right, Meme Evil Empire Communism is very bad. Thankfully, I believe in Actual Communism, which entails Socialism or the lower form of Communism where individuals are rewarded according to what they produce, encouraging individual talent and drive more so than Capitalism, developing into Communism as the productive forces are developed to the point where the bare minimum labour people perform as social creatures is enough to support and raise up everyone, essentially a post-scarcity ideal

Eh, the whole red scare thing is lessening, you'd probably see the cities be reasonably okay with step by step revolutionary change, and anyone going "Better red than dead!" and running around shooting folks might chill out in one of the conveniently avaliable prison camps, the capacity of which in Liberal Capitalist America already are equivalent to the USSR.

Arm the poor

I am more memey.
I mean yes but my point is that a parody is unnecessary when those two are already self-parodies and there's like 10 of us.

KMan lived in a world when mounting the barricades was still a viable method. This is not so in 21st century America. All our gun culture results in is massacres.

Fair, the state can crush any citizen movement easily, so the revolution would require support from the Armed Forces, however that's no reason why we shouldn't be armed and trained in weaponry, worst case scenario you have a better chance of survival if a true fascist movement gets going and starts breaking down doors in the night.

Vietcong were also backed by the Soviets as this was occurring with supplies and munitions.

Projection into a foreign theater on the other side of the planet is not the same as suppression within one's own territory. Also the tactics, tech, and infrastructure thta would be involved are light-years beyond those of 1960s Indochina.

Well because the data actually demonstrates that you are far more likely to either accidentally shoot a friend or have your toddler shoot themselves than you are to ever shoot a Nazi.
