How much does near-superhuman physique really matter in modern warfare?

But yes, I think you are largely correct. Peer level conflict is something where we assume whatever capabilities we have the enemy has as well.
If we can strike their country they can strike ours. So yeah, our robot making industry would likely not last long.
On the other hand if we have war fighting robots then we must have building robots.
So our robots are rebuilding the factories that the enemy is blowing up so they can resume building robots.

And the factory-building robots would themselves be a target, as would the tech base needed to maintain them.
This leads to the question of how much of the economy can be devoted to war production, and how long that can be maintained before they run short of something essential to the whole effort.

That is an interesting question and something I read about and put some thought into.
There really is no simple answer.
Some wars tend to have one battle and the defeated side decides the whole thing is not worth it and signs peace.
There are wars where after a total military defeat the conflict continues for decades in partisan warfare.
There are even wars where the victor decides we won but it was not worth it and retreats.
There were wars when the government sign peace but the people go "WTF we had that!" and overthrew/changed the government so they can have another go.
The reverse is true where the government continues the war and the people overthrow the government to have peace.

so it depends.

Iraq and Afgan were voluntary wars like Vietnam when America lost interest it went how much another ten years their be a slew of mawkish movies. no real threat to the regime.
Ukraine is a disaster for pootin he thought he'd do an Iraq shock and awe quick spot of regime change and the Russian empire is back on track.
Ukraine managed to resist the West came to their aid.
The Russian army is just about able to find it's backside with both hands NATOS united and rearming the Russian military and it's weapons are seen as a joke.
