El Salvador Elects New President, Breaking Decades-Long Control By 2 Parties
The people of El Salvador have chosen a new politician to lead the country, ending three decades of control by two political parties.

Nayib Bukele, 37, held his wife's hand and waved to crowds as Coldplay's "Viva La Vida" boomed from the speakers. "This day is a historic day. This day, El Salvador destroyed the bipartisanship," he said.

The former mayor of San Salvador, Bukele campaigned on a promise to fight corruption and as an alternative to the country's two main political parties: the right-wing Nationalist Republican Alliance — ARENA — and the left-wing Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front — FMLN — which became the ruling party in 2009.
El Salvador has recently elected Nayib Bukele, 37 and former mayor of San Salvador, to become President of El Salvador. The man has won more than half of the votes, preventing a run-off from happening.

He was once a member of the left-wing Farabundo Marti National Liberation Front (FMLN) but was expelled from the party and now he is a member of the conservative center-right Grand Alliance for National Unity (GANA).

Bukele is going to have a tough time healing the impoverished nation that is El Salvador. His past confrontations with the country's major political parties, FMLN and ARENA, may not have made a lot of friends within the government.

Aren't El Salvador's death squads essentially outside of the range of government control?

I really can't comment because studying the politics of every little country in the world would take too long ;)

Seems good. Anything that isn't pure enough when the left is involved is "neoliberal", even if the person in question is a social democrat like Blair. No wonder he got kicked out

Ah yes, the "ebul lefteez" meme again. How unsurprising.
And what in the exact shit does Tony fuck Blair have to do with a thread about El Salvador?

I'm simply commenting on the fact that the left will eat their own.
More like the centrist radicals and the far-left will eat each other while the moderates tear their hair follicles from their skulls as they watch them deliberately hand Trump another 4 years (how is this even remotely on topic?)
