The Trump administration is taking aim at a law designed to protect military service members from getting cheated by shady lending practices.

NPR has obtained documents that show the White House is proposing changes that critics say would leave service members vulnerable to getting ripped off when they buy cars. Separately, the administration is taking broader steps to roll back enforcement of the Military Lending Act.

The MLA is supposed to protect service members from predatory loans and financial products. But the White House appears willing to change the rules in a way that critics say would take away some of those protections.

"If the White House does this, it will be manipulating the Military Lending Act regulations at the behest of auto dealers and banks to try and make it easier to sell overpriced rip-off products to military service members," says Christopher Peterson, a law professor at the University of Utah, who reviewed the documents.
As always conservatives prove they don't give a shit about living soldiers, only the dead ones they can use as propaganda.

So did Congress pass a new act rolling back part or all the MLA?

Not yet but like the ACA the Trump administration is using the executive branch to undermind it and take away protections, just like the department of education is no longer protecting civil rights under Betsy DeVos, Federal Housing under Ben Carson, Net Neutrality with Arjit Pat, the Enviorment with Oil CEOs in charge of the EPA, or worker's rights with the department of labor.

... are they seriously aiming to breed an environment that creates a military coup? Because this sort of shit is.
No nothing that far, this'll mostly affect the new soldier that just finished Boot and gets his first weekend of leave. I remember in one particularly infamous example a sailor got a brand new mustang from a car dealership right outside the base, the fool.

It was worth 80'000$, but he got a 20'000$ discount making it sixty.

The Sailor worked his ass off and did all his NKO Courses and certifications like a good little boy, got promoted fast and got it paid off in 2 years.

Unfortunately the young lad didn't read the contract, because in it there was a clouse that stated once he paid the $60'000. The Car lot would repossess his vehicle and sell it again.

That... breeds an environment that creates a military coup as it fucks over the new blood. Since the US military leaks like a sleeve when retaining personnel...
