If you want to feel like you're getting back to nature or savagery or whatever. Throw your mattress in the back of your truck and drive around for a bit. With your job I'm assuming you have large blocks of time free. You're a Seattleite, IIRC. Do a loop of your state, hit the Grand Coulee dam, Richland (with the Hanford reactor site), Spokane, Yakima (HOPS HOPS HOPS), and Mount Rainer. You'll spend a few days on it, and sleeping in your vehicle makes you feel like you have your home in a kit bag. Wherever you lay your head is your address. You wash up with a jug of water, a rag and a bar of soap. You eat anyplace that looks good.
I suspect that you will fall more toward "good for the soul" than "Sounds dumb but".
